Taurean Surgical, a Texas-based med-tech startup offering advanced medical solutions in surgical-robotic technology, and the Technology Business incubator of Mazumdar Shah Medical Foundation (MSMF), a non-profit healthcare organization in India, have collaborated to democratize access to advanced healthcare technologies for the underserved population. Taurean Surgical’s flagship product is a fully integrated, end-to-end solution aiming to improve healthcare delivery in underserved markets.
Started in 2021 by two surgeons, Dr. Rahul Kumar, an ENT surgeon, and Dr. Sunil Manjila, a neurosurgeon. As per Taurean Surgical, their product will have a key role in treating head and neck cancers which are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally.
Taurean Surgical’s technology includes a proprietary (patent-pending) robot-assisted 3D Exoscope and ergonomic flexible-tipped endoscope, enabled with the stereotactic image guidance system. The founders think that their technology would empower surgeons to operate on more patients, safely and efficiently. This can be achieved across multiple specialties and locations, helping hospitals reduce their patient readmission rates.
Taurean Surgical would serve the healthcare arena by manufacturing its robotic surgical platforms and related products, with operations in India, the USA, and Europe. The company offers innovative ergonomic and automated solutions that help surgeons perform complex procedures with high precision thereby minimizing the discomfort and pain associated with long & repetitive surgical procedures. The collaboration between Taurean Surgical and the technology business incubator of Mazumdar Shah Medical Foundation in India will enable them to bring cost-effective solutions to patients who cannot afford them due to financial constraints or other reasons.
Commenting on this, Dr. Rahul Kumar, the founder of Taurean Surgical, says, “The idea of Taurean Surgical was first synthesized when I was working in a government hospital in India. I realized the importance of the role played by technology in assisting and empowering surgeons to see better and operate better, thus leading to better outcomes for the patient. As an individual surgeon, I can only impact a few patients, but through technology, I could impact several times more.
